I’m just writing a test post tonight to see if everything still works with this blog. I’m thinking of getting back to writing and showing what I’m up to in the studio.
I didn’t like my Substack experience primarily because just as I opened an account there, the focus of the platform was undergoing a significant redesign; the powers that be there decided to heavily lean into making a social media site where in addition to hosting a newsletter/blog it rapidly added direct messaging, posts and following. None of this appealed to me and it ultimately encouraged me to leave the platform.
I’ve had this blog on my website for years, although I rarely posted (about 5 posts total over a decade or so). But I think I’d like to give it another try on my own site. The traffic will be much lower (not a bad thing) but the advantage is that I’m in charge, and there are no distractions.
There are things I need to figure out. Do I invite the 30 or so people who subscribed to my Substack newsletter to come over here? If so, how do I do it? How do I make it obvious and easy for people to subscribe to the blog? How do I host videos for display on this website (assuming I will make videos here)? On Youtube? On Vimeo? Natively?
